Susan (Mom Said)

Moriah, you are spot on!!  We have so much in common, yet music is a whole different subject.  You make an excellent point when you mentioned we like the same musical instruments.

I grew up listening to rock music.  At the time I liked it, but later I realized, it was the only type of music I was exposed to.  My parents didn’t listen to much music.  My 4 older siblings, listened to rock.  I like lite rock, Journey, Foreigner, Beattles…..yet I don’t find myself in love with it.

In college I became a big fan of Modanna.  When I met your dad, Moriah, he introduced me to many new singers.  (music was not a big part of my life).  I found I instantly fell in love with Luther.  I love the whole smooth sounds, the slow and soulful sounds.  I love R&B, I love jazz, and I love pop, dance music.

Celine Dion, Mariah Carrie (no, you were NOT named after her, the spelling if not the same!) Beyonce’, Joe, Brian McKnight, B2K, Christina Aquallara, Ushar, Shakira,

I think music is a powerful toy.  Music can be used to change your mood.  Music can be used to give your energy.  Music can be used to inspire you.  I love that you are so young, and you have already discovered the joys of music.  I love that you follow your own path, to what type of music makes your heart sing.

  1. You mention exposure to music. When I was really young, my only exposure to music was children’s tunes. Like those really annoying songs about spiders and water spouts. But these songs were a little different — they were in Polish. Makes sense — that’s where I was born and living.

Then I remember this one summer day, I was four, and I was with my mom at the beach. And there was this club/disco place next to the beach. Every weekend, the youth would go there to have a good time. It’s where they would all chill. And that place would play music really loud, so you could here it even a kilometer away. I remember walking home from the beach that day, and we were about to walk through this little wooded area, and I heard some techno/eurodance music. It was instinct, I was like, “what is this LOVE in musical form that my ears hear?” Ever since, I’ve been hooked on dance music.

I really like the new beats that are being produced by the likes of Timbaland, Madonna, David Guetta, Kanye West. And sometimes, I will hear a pop/indy group that really captures the essence of that moving melody.

    I love it.
